The Goodyear's are a great tyre and I didn't think the Michelin's could be any better but I tried them and I'm glad I did, somehow theyre just a step up in every condition. The two things I found with the Goodyear's were they're bad in the colder weather and they got a bit 'floaty' in standing water, with the Michelin's both these were no longer a problem. I didnt think you could get a better all round tyre without some sort of compromise but if the Michelin's have one I haven't found it yet.

I didn't notice any but tbh I don't really take much notice of MPG or noise from tyres.

This is a good thread personally can't speak badly of the goodyears.  They've been brilliant but do fancy a change.  Ill be following this with interest.

Having used both the F1's and the Super Sports in anger on both mine and my wife's cars the Super Sports come out on top every time IMHO!

The F1's are a great tyre but the Super Sports just have that extra level of grip!
 

It really depends if this is survey is based on cost or performance.  The Goodyears are an excellent all round tyre and are significantly cheaper per corner, because of this for everyday use you'll probably get more people running these and more votes over the more expensive Michelins. 

I personally can't comment on performance comparisons as I've never run the Michelins but from all the feedback from those who've ran both (including bignod00 quoted above) the Michelins although more expensive seem to be the preferred option based on performance.

IMO all comes down to what do you want, best value all rounder or best performing road tyre ?

So which tyres are the quietest?
Personally I think road noise into cabin on MK5 is so bad, there probably isn't an answer........I just turn the radio up.
Just got an 02 TT, and road noise is non existent by comparison, plus ride comfort is better on 18" compared to golfs 17".

I voted super sports having also had 10,000 miles + on Goodyear's and the Michelins are a noteable improvement

Pleased to hear that as I have F1 Assy 2s on my ED30 (and had them on my R32) and they are horrible.  Not in the way they grip, but in the way the make the car feel.

Not sure if it's just me, but have any other of you super sport users noticed you pick up far more grit and gravel at low speeds ldue to the sticky rubber compound on the outside of the tyre?

Only thing that bugs me (such a first world problem  )

I have noticed down one particular road actually my car always seems to flick up more gravel than it used to or other cars I drive do. Maybe that's what it is then.

for me Carl, price is least important than wear and noise.... that's why I put it in that order.. ;)

The AS2's are a good tyre, probably more than most will need on the road with a great low rolling RR, but are quite old now, the Continental 5's, Michilen Super Sports are a gen ahead.

Have Continental Sport Contact 5's on the front of mine, and some Kumho things on the back.
I had the Conti's put on the front when I bought it to replace Linglongs  , - they've lasted me 20k, and two trackdays (although I'm not brutal on tyres on track). Whisper quiet compared to Linglongs, but you'd expect that!

Very happy with them - I'm actually off to have four tyres all round tomorrow, as they have all started to go bald on the inner edges. Have chosen Conti Sport Contact 5's again - seem quite expensive, but just great all round, in my limited experience.
Evo Magazine rated them top tyre in their last tests on all round performance after wet and dry tests, so good enough for me...
