Is it normal for the engine or engine cover to rock when you rev it?

engine mounts sound warn out. youll get some movement as its for comfort but excess is down to warn out mounts.

So what does work out engine mounts entail? I take it you can't do it yourself...

I also should mention that the engine cover is only secured at the front, the two back cover mounts have perished. I've ordered some new ones already.

not sure what the engine mounts cost as ive uprated to vibratechnic ones. there an easy fix tho. done mine on the driveway with some axle stands. took about an hour in total to do. really easy job and only need basic tools.

Is it just axle stands and basic tools then? No specialised tools?

if i remember correctly its only 10mm, 13mm, 16mm and 18mm deep sockets. and t20 or t25 torq driver. and torque wrench to. and a trolley jack to support engine from underneath while swapping the mounts.

Haha so not basic tools.

I've got the rest apart from torque wrench and trolley jack. Do I really need a torque wrench? Definitely don't have a trolley jack. Might have to leave this one... Perhaps it's not excessive movements. It rocks forwards to the front of the car by about an inch or two. Should I post a video?

I could just get it done by a garage I guess. Any idea on how much you think it should be? Cheers

Engine could drop out if mounts fail  :surprised:

Few guys have had this happen when cambelt replaced, but garage have re-used engine mount stretch bolts. . . Moral of the story is - don't re-use stretch bolts.

Soft mounts also affect the cars handling as the weight of the engine is thrown around the engine bay.

I've spoken to someone and they say an inch or two of movement forward isn't too bad. It's when its really rocking three or four inches that's a problem.
