« on: May 06, 2015, 04:31:59 pm »
Hi guys, have done a brief search on here but would just like to see if any one has any other ideas or opinions,
i have recently just retrofitted a rns 510 but am still wanting to upgrade the audio a bit further. i want like to amp up a set of front components, id like to know what speakers people are using and how they've gone about it, Speaker wire runs etc, connecting from rns to amp etc !

I have the Herz HSK 163's running from an RNS510.

A lot of pics of the install in my build thread.

I have ESK163 fronts and DSK130 rears running from a 4ch hertz amp and a mtx terminator amp powering my sub.
all from rcd510, same as rns510 wiring
hi-low converters, wired up the speakers to the amp behind the HU. running amp wires to each speaker is impossibly time consuming.

@xjay1337 thanks for the reply, i understand it would take longer for me to wire all the speakers up to the amp and correct me if I'm wrong but isn't it just two wires to the crossover from the amp and the cross over splits the rest to the 3 speakers, I'm new to audio and if i am wrong then please correct me,
also if i just wanted to do the front speakers i only need a two channel amp rather than a four ?

You can mount the crossovers in the doors. Then you run one wire to each. Running the wires is easy i spent the most time deadening the doors.

This may help http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,93154.msg934040.html

You can get a 2 channel amp or a 4 channel and use the other 2 channels for a sub.

@dazza thanks mate your a star ! :happy2:

I've just popped off my door panel and i've only got the two way system, I'm not going for an all out audio build just something better than the standard system should i stick with the two way system or upgrade to three whilst I'm there ?!

also I'm  slightly confused, the woofer on my system has 4 wires on the plug and i couldn't see a cross over in there either ?!

thanks to both of you so far

Can you take a pic of the door with the door panel off?

@dazza just taken the door card off again, is it possible that the woofer acts as a crossover for the tweeter, On my wiring there is one blue and brown wire and another green and brown wire that enters the woofer as well as a solid red and a red/ brown wire, I've looked at the moles connector on the door and sure enough the solid red and red/brown wires are not present at the molex indicating they are not getting any power/ signal from the head unit , also the red and red brown wire go up to the tweeter, it seems to me that the blue and brown wire and the woofer positive / negative and the tweeter somehow feeds off it ?

You're probably correct i've not seen the two speaker setup so not 100% sure.

Its up to you if you want the 2 or 3 speakers. I would say go for 3 as the woofer is in a sh*t position.

depends.
you split the main wiring down and replace the factory x-over with the aftermarket one. it will have inputs and outputs. input from the radio and then output to the speakers.
to amp them up you then either have to run the amp wires to the headunit then back to the amp or from the head unit to the amp and then from the amp to each speaker individually.

Just seems pointless to keep factory x-overs if uprating the speakers/audio.
