Done that in my mk4, was fine.
Did it in my Honda Civic (F reg) and broke the dizzy (yes it was a crappy 1.5 civic....)

Not much you can do part from drain the oil and check for lumps of metal...
Or pull the engine apart and have a look.....
There is no replacement for displacement....
But a turbo does help....

Yeah I would change both the engine and gearbox oil ASAP and have a good look through then, these things are pretty strong so you may get away with it. Fingers crossed for you mate.

It should be fine doing it just the once, if you are doing it constantly then that's where the problems start.

I suppose it's one way of blasting the crap out of the engine,
How hard can it be?

don't bother changing anything if works as before and no noises don't change it.

If you hearing noises drain oil and check it over

I did a similar thing on my old Integrale a long time ago but I hit 2nd instead of 4th at quite high speed and a few months later the cam belt jumped a tooth or 2 and destroyed the engine, to this day I do not know if that was a result of hitting 2nd and the engine hitting best part of 9,000rpm (calculated) briefly.

You should get it checked over mate. That could have caused piston to touch valve

Vagcom will tell you exactly what rpm you hit.

I've seen rockers jumping off, valves snapping, valve springs snapping, belts jumping from over reving.
