GTI DSG nearly stalling when braking
« on: May 11, 2015, 04:42:05 pm »
Hello,

Bit of a strange one. When coming to a stop the cars revs dip to around 450 and it feels like the cars going to stall, gives a little shudder then goes to tickover point. It doesn't do this everytime and appears more when braking abit harder. Other then that car seems fine.

The cars a 56plate GTI DSG.

Any ideas what it could be?

Yea it appears to do it when cold or fully warmed up.

I believe a symptom of a failing PCV valve can cause poor idling, possibly this could be on its' way out?

IMO it's a sign of the old mechatronics not playing ball. Only fix is to replace the unit.

I've done the PCV idle check by removing oil dip stick and car went nuts as expected so Im assuming PCV is fine but ill be changing regardless.

Rich83, have you got any experience with replacement mechatronics units? costs etc? Would this issue bring up a fault code?

Appreciate the help

It could be number of reasons I wouldn't jump to mechatronics so soon ,it could
Be  maf sensor that's where I would look next

I agree I wouldn't be flinging any money at mech units untill I know 100% going to go for the simpler fixes first. The cars perfectly driveable at the moment as its barely noticeable most of the time.

I'll go with the PCV,  MAF then DSG reset/oil change.

Anyone else had this issue?

Also anyone had replaced/repairs mechatronics units out of warranty?

Well mine does it sometimes and my car is in perfect mechanical condition. The only thing it can be is the mecha.  Day reset will help initially but the problem will stil persist.

Also check the timing

Timing as in cam timing? Could the belt possibly jump?

If you have vcds use it to scan  then check values and quantities to make sure everything is in spec

Thanks. Ill be getting full health check when I go for a DSG reset so will make sure this gets covered.
