Loud thud when delivering power
« on: May 18, 2015, 11:15:27 am »
Hopefully nothing major  but thought I would ask on here. My new ED30 which I found out looks like it has had a remap being stage 1 as no mods I can see scared me this morning when I floored it. Basically I was travelling at around 30 and then when got to national speed limit I floored the accelerator and the power did deliver after a second as was in Drive but also came a big thud with it which sound very scary.

Drove and accelerated fine for rest of journey to work but was a bit surprised by this big thud/jolt

could be a worn out engine mount? Or possibly a gearbox issue, but I'm a manual owner so not really familiar with DSG issues

Ws hoping that was not the case at all. Car was totally fine afterwards and up until then so was presuming maybe it was just the car reacting to the power delivery. When accelarating any other time i have accelerated quick but never floored the pedal

Definitely not the wheels spinning? I know when I drive the stage 1 edition 30 and floor it the wheels spin and it bangs the whole car

Could well be although did not hear or feel the wheels spinning. I am hoping with that loud of a thud if it was something bad then i would have noticed something broke straight afterwards but it pulled and drove fine after that. I will give it a VCDS scan but that may not show anything up if a mechanical failure.

Due to drive it to Stratford-upon-avon and then London this week so lets hope it is nothing serious

If it is can I check this to confirm or is it a Garage thing. I have the standard 3 month warranty with the dealer and also got an extended 1 year warranty with it so in terms of covering the cost I am okay but just a pain if it is something I need doing. Also if I could check myself then that would give me piece of mind

You need to learn a bit of mechanical sympathy. If you were an engineer or a toolmaker, you'd be wincing knowing what you were doing to the mechanical parts. you wouldn't do it.

Silly question. You don't have something heavy in the boot that only moves, quickly when you plant your right foot?  A jack would do it or maybe a can of cleaner of some sort.

I had this a few month ago. Turned out to be a dogbond mount bolt had snapped.
