Why would you want a stumpy aerial if you have a sharkfin?
because the new nav ariels come with a antenna which is quite long

Does anyone else not actually have an external aerial at all? And if you don't have an external aerial where have VW hidden it... by the way radio reception is perfect so there must be one somewhere!

I thought it was hidden in the offside A-pillar?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

From MY05-MY06.5 GTIs without the satnav didn't have a radio aerial; if they had satnav they had the sharkfin.
From MY06.5+ Golfs without OEM satnav were given a beesting aerial.

I have a sharkfin like that on mine, how ever I never had Satnav in the car when I got it.  Perhaps it is just the stations I listen to but I never thought the reception was actually that good.  Either that or the stupid adapter that is needed between the cable and the Alpine unit I have in there.  On the other side it does look  8) !

Ah well that explains it! I don't have satnav and its an MY05 GTI. I rather like the more clean look without the aerial anyway!

Thanks

It was cheaper to add a beesting aerial instead of a hidden aerial which is why VW eventually got rid of the antenna-less cars :) I think the Golf was more sleek without or with the sharkfin myself.
