Front and rear cameras
« on: May 31, 2015, 08:22:06 pm »
Had a few close calls recently as Spanish people cant drive. Also always worry about being stitched up as i'm a foreigner.

Looking for a front and rear camera setup. As spanish people cant park movement sensors/park mode would be great.

A couple i've found so far.

Blackvue 16GB DR650GW-2CH

KOONLUNG K1S 2-CHANNEL

The K1S looks stealthy, the reviews of the DR650GW-2CH on amazon are not great.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have blackvue (just front) on mine
Front and back on one car
And front and back on the work van

The picture qaulity is excellent, they're quite stealthy and have some very good features with the way they save videos, you can change the sensitivity on the movement sensors, WiFi connection, GPS (you can turn on/off), speed readout (you can turn on/off) and loads more. Only thing is the voice recording is pretty poor as the road noise is nearly all you can here but it doesn't matter much and you can turn it on/off.

I had the DR650GW-2CH, I found the picture quality to be excellent, in fact probably the best I've used, the rear camera's quality of course is not as good but decent enough.
The main downside is that the front camera is rather large in size and the mount position on the camera means it is better suited to LHD cars and when fitted it means it has more of a left hand view of things with the right side being somewhat clipped from view, you could maybe improve this with an adhesive angled pad under one side of the mount to tilt it towards the right or live with it.

The K1S looks great and I also fancy giving it a try

Thanks for your input guys. It's a difficult decision between these two.

I may try the K1S but also add a low voltage disconnect to squeeze a bit more time out of the park mode.

I also bought one of these to squeeze a bit more time out of the park mode.

My front is a dashcam mini 0801.

Direct wired to interior fuse box, hidden behind rear view and screen set to black.

You never know it's there and it records in the background on a loop as soon as the ignition starts so no battery drain and no human error in forgetting to turn it on/off.

In build thread if you want - http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,89715.msg907250.html#msg907250

As to the rear, you could copy the setup, polarise the front lens and connect in the same way! Units are about £80
