Boxster 986 pads to anti-rattle /damper shim fitment?
« on: June 11, 2015, 07:36:27 pm »
Hello, I have just taken delivery of some 986 Pagid pads from Eurocarparts along with some 36/40mm anti rattle shims which fit into the respective Pistons.
The pads already have standard Pagid dampers adhered to the back of each pad so do I pull these off to fix the Porsche ones on or just stick the Porsche dampers / anti-rattle shims over the top??
Your help is appreciated, preferably before the weekend lol!
Mike.

Can you post a pic of the back of the pad to show these Pagid dampers?
Without traction power is nothing!

Yes will do when I get to work.
FYI they are typical shim / dampers as found on most manufactured pads.

Reason I asked is my pads have a plain back that I just glued/taped the anti rattle pads on to...

Thanks for your replies bacillus, please see imgaes below:

As you can see the pads have a standard looking vibration / damper / shim thing attached, do I pull this off?

Also see above a picture of the Porsche shim with a adhesive backing.

Regards,

Mike.

Hmm, if you could cleanly remove that anti-squeal/rattle pad then I would do so. As you can tell the boxster anti-rattle shim needs a flat and clean surface to adhere to and I suspect that just sticking it on to those pads (as is), will make the fitting too thick with a 25mm disc.

My thoughts exactly, it would be too thick especially as my discs are fairly new.
I will find out once I start the install and make a decision then.
I'll either pull them off or wait until the pads / discs are worn down slightly and if they turn out not to squeal I'll just save them for the next set of pads, win-win.

I would leave that pad as is.... and just put the shim ontop!

Hi, fitted these brakes today and with the Pistons pushed back fully there was enough clearance to fit the pads as is.

Porsche shims were smeared with Pagid Cera-tec grease then fitted into the caliper Pistons before bolting them to the adaptors.
No brake squeal or vibration whatsoever.
Thanks for reading,
Mike.
