How to remove water marks?
« on: June 26, 2015, 11:33:14 am »
I have a solid black GTI and on the roof and bonnet are what looks like very fine dried on water marks. I have tried polishing them out and using T-cut but this makes no difference. Any suggestions?

I doubt you will remove them by hand polishing, you really need a machine polish.
how long have the water marks been left on? Even worse if you live in a hard water area.
A decent DA will do the job.

I have no idea, I purchased the car back in Nov last year and it's been like that before I got it so it could be years. Looks like I will need to invest in a DA polisher next  :happy2:

You can get a water spot remover (think carpro do it) to dissolve the minerals causing the marks. If it's etched in, machine polish.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Bit trivial but try a clay bar, had some lighter water marks on mine and it got the job done

Its just a way of life.

Spotless is really more designed for coated surfaces. Tryed it on glass left in the sun for 30 minutes after washing and didn't do much tbh.

abrasives usually are needed!
