Painting brake calipers
« on: July 02, 2015, 05:33:58 pm »
Going to be painting my brake calipers yellow in the next couple of weeks so just wondering what paint have people used? Seen a few people say they use a brush one and others spray. And also because I'm going to probably just do it whilst theyre still on should I remove the pads before painting and mask everything else?

Iv just painted mine using E-Tech paint i was quite impressed with it, dries within 30 mins for recoat and a nice smooth finish

They were previously painted using Foliatec paint + hardener, was also impressed with this but it dries as more of a plastic feeling when dry

With both paints i used a flat artist brush as it gives a fantastic smooth finish and makes getting into small spaces easier

For the backs i removed the calipers and pads for the fronts i removed the anti rattle clip

depending on how good of a painter you are you don't really need to mask anything for painting with a brush (I'm a decorator so i didn't mask)

If you go the spray route then EVERYTHING needs to be masked that you don't want painting

Foliatec

E-Tech

Thanks man! I'll probably go the brush route then as it seems like it would be easier to do! Also nice jobs on yours  :congrats:

Also, clean everything as well as you can before painting.

I'm lead to believe a light sanding before painting as well (and a further good clean) makes the finish even better?

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

To be fair, any old enamel paint will be fine, it's no different to the Foliatec or E-Tech stuff.
You might as well save the cash and just buy Hammerite.
I used it on my Corrado calipers and it was on there until I sold the car about 4 years later. Never had any problems or issues with heat etc.

Special caliper paint is just a scam.
