2005 Boot badge.....
« on: July 03, 2015, 05:50:18 pm »
Talk to me.   We've the soft close handle on our 2005 gti with the usual white worm.  I'd like to keep the soft close handle, so what are the options to replace the knackered bit?  Getting confused between handles and covers, MK5 MK6 etc!

Like you I had the soft close handle on my 2005 GTi, went manky with whiteworm as well...

Your options are a later MK5 one or a MK6 one, I went for a later MK5 one but lost the soft close...

You could rub down your original badge, paint or wrap it and glue a MK4 badge to it... That way you'll keep the soft close

How much are replacement badges and how hard are they to fit? It seems to be a common problem on the mark 5.

Not sure about prices (Wangled mine under warranty even though the car was about 7 years old!)... Best looking on ebay could get a decent used one. Just looked found a used one for £74.99 and a scabby whitewormed one for £39 :surprised:  Don't think there that much new, but I stand to be corrected...

Open tailgate, remove trim, remove rear wiper motor, remove the 3 screws out old handle and jobs a good un!!!  :happy2:

I removed my white wormed one and sanded and resprayed. Its a OK to get the whole unit off, but removing the metal disk with the vw bit is hard as mine was alot of double sided tape, I'll see if I can find my posts....
There is no replacement for displacement....
But a turbo does help....

Are there any gel badges that would fit?
