Cam follower change
« on: July 05, 2015, 08:33:30 pm »
So changed cam follower on my loba HPFP is there any wear to this? It's been on car for nearly 20k. What should a worn one look like?

Hi mate the new ones have the black coating completely covering the top. Mine was similar to that or a tad worse after 30k

what's the general thought on when to change the cam follower on a remapped car? mine has a stage 1 r-tech and the cam follower was done last april... since then i've done about 6-7k, how long will they last before it needs at least checking?

is there an easy way to tell if it needs changing?

Got a Loba pump in mine and there was absolutely no wear on the follower at all after 8K.  I use Helix Ultra AVL 5W/30 oil from the dealer in mine.

£35 changed after 20k. Apparently it has slight wear so won't be replacing it again for another 20k which I hope not to have the car anyway. Ebay by the way

Tuned doesn't accelerate CF wear...but an HPFP upgrade will.
Most HPFP upgrades will wear through the CF, and destroy the HPFP, within 10k to 20k miles.
Best to initially check the CF @ 8k, 11k, 14k, 17k, and 20k miles to determine the life your CF will have with a brand new HPFP upgrade. Once you've determined the CF life...you can begin checking, and, or replacing the CF at the determined safe interval.

A stock HPFP will have much better CF life reaching anywhere up to 100k+ miles. But I would begin checking the CF every 10k miles beginning @ 60k miles.

These are my CF wear after only 10k miles on my APR HPFP...I always plan to change it every 10k miles when the black begins to wear off. The first pic is from shortly after installing the HPFP upgrade...the second is from about 4 CF's and 40k miles later...you can see the wear is decreasing as time goes on:

@ 70k miles

@ 110k miles
