Help diagnose my air con

Hi could do with a little help with my air con.

Bought my 2005 GTI with it not working, noticed there wasn't any gas in it, today I regassed it, the system held pressure and no leaks were present.

It still doesn't work! VCDS shows no faults, apart from low pressure due to no gas in it. Now cleared.

What next, pressure switch or compressor? How do I diagnose?

Mine was faulty pressure switch diagnosed by my air con specialist friend
Mine still had plenty of gas in there though so its strange that yours was empty!

Pressure switch was about £35

When you say it still doesn't work, is that because you are not getting cold air in the cabin?

Aside from the pressure switch, I would also check that when switched on the aircon makes the small fan (of the two on the radiator) turn.  If not, then with the engine off try turning the fan by hand.  If it won't turn it is seized and needs replacing.  If it will turn then try checking the relevant fuse, etc. or take out the fans and open up the small one to see if one of the carbon brushes has stuck open.  If so, free off, clean, reassemble and see if that helps.  If the small fan isn't turning then the system can't cool the refrigerant which leads to no cool air.

Right had a look under the bonnet, no fans are running with or without the air con on. With the engine off both fans spin freely. Clearly an issue here

Could well be a faulty pressure switch then mate or worse case scenario the clutch on compressor is fooked

Main thing is not to panic and to start off by checking/ruling out all the easy to check items such as fuses, control units, etc.  Also, the small fan is supplied with power via the large fan so it might be a fault with that...

Cheers I guess I can test the fans via VCDS? Could even be a fuse!

I just had a new compressor fitted and the system regassed for the painful price of £637.  :( This was from a AC specialist and not WV. The money VW wanted was eye watering!! :(

Unfortunately thats double what I was quoted by local Aircon specialist friend
He also told me they are very easy to refurbish if you know what your doing  :happy2:

Quick update, I've tested the fans, they both spin when powered so seem to be working fine. I've ordered a high pressure switch, this might cure it? Do they have a seal of o ring to replace too?

No gas either after I was told it held a vacuum! Back tomorrow for a re gas then

Mine wasn't working....
I had it regassed, still didn't work... Changed the pressure switch and the little o-ring.... Still didn't work...had it re-gassed again and finally it works!
What I have noticed with mine is that there is a small leak of fluid coming from where the aircon pipe connects to the aircon radiator... I only noticed this when I took the bumper off last week to have painted. I noticed oily fluid that had dripped onto the intercooler pipe, and traced it back to the aircon pipe work. I think this is why my aircon packed in in the first place...???
