What to do?
« on: July 30, 2015, 07:03:46 pm »
Right, I have a bit of a dilemma and need some guidance on what to do.

I bought a BCS CAT Back in the group buy a few months back but after taking to AKS to get fitted, discovered that it wouldn't fit with my aftermarket downpipe. Alex says he can work his magic for it to fit but it will cost about £300. or I can get a BCS downpipe with CAT for around £650 (which I cant really afford)

However, I've recently had issues with my aftermarket xenon's and think they'll need replacing, which I reckon I could get for around £500 or could get a standard set of Halogens for around £100.

So, should I get the BCS exhaust fitted by AKS for £300 and get standard lights for £100 or sell the CAT Back and replace the Xenon's?

Sort the exhaust. Forget the xenons, it's still summer and daylight for ages lol

Halogens are crap in comparison to the Xenon's, so sort the exhaust.
Or save the money and buy a 2nd hand Yeti 575, I have and it puts just as many smiles on my face as the GTI does.
What's the issue with the lights anyway?

I can't do both mate, it's either fit the exhaust and get Halogens or sell the exhaust and get replacement Xenons

Sorry mate but not sure I'm following you here lol????

What's the issue with the lights anyway?

I have OEM xenon headlights but the ballasts , ignitors and wires are aftermarket (came with car), the right headlight stopped working a few weeks back and I think it was to so with a split in the wire. A friend has stripped the wire back and reinsulated it and now the light works but occasionally doesnt, it seems to start working again after switching lights off and resetting ignition

Plus the left light is intermittent in the winter, have to reset via ignition for it occasionally

Plus I have 2 sidelights stuck in the headlight casing which are visible and doing my head in haha

Halogens with some osram nightbraker bulbs are pretty damn good imo. Ditch the xenons for now and sort the exhaust :D

I drive an A3 with Philips XtremeVision and whilst they are adequate, I'd always pick xenons if there was a choice. Plus I always think you should ensure your car is running in tip top condition before modifying.

Tough call then, it's about 50/50 at the minute

I'd hate to lose the BCS exhaust to be fair and was excited to have it put on but would miss my Xenons and my existing exhaust still sounds a bit meaty (just doesn't hangs very well and looks pants)

Are you planning on remapping or anything? If so, I'd sort the downpipe to fit the BCS exhaust. If not, see if you can sell the BCS exhaust for at least the same price you paid to get your money back.

Your headlights might only need new ballasts (OEM preferably) or ignitors that you can look for on ebay or the like with time and only go for it when you find a good deal.
