Thinking of selling my gti, ideas on what next?
« on: August 05, 2015, 01:21:11 pm »
Thinking about selling my gti and not because i don't like it or am fed up with it.

I love it but i always wanted an ed30 dsg and now am in the position i can afford one.

I've got my current gti set up way i like it etc. So not really going any further with it. Stage 3 is what is next but with it having 120k on the clock i would rather not.

Anyway is it really worth it selling for an ed30 or is it worth while looking in to somthing else?

Problem is nothing much that takes my fancy that is really in my price range.

Any ideas ? Range between £10000 and £15000

What exactly are you criteria? Power, number of doors/seats, running costs, fuel consumption etc etc?

On the face of it, with that sort of money you've got quite a variety of options away from a Golf (e.g. RS4, M5, 350Z etc etc)

Lower millage than i currently have about 70k max. Fuel consumption i could probably live with 20mpg mark.

i would want something faster than my gti on stage 2. I would probably map whatever i get so doesn't need to be faster than a stage 2 gti standard like the ed30. A good all round car though not wanting pure speed.

3 or 5 door but it has to be 5 seats.prefer somthing a bit more modern than my gti aswell or similar.

I do like the s4 and i looked at the s8 but milage is a bit high and they are a bit older than i wanted.

Have you looked at S3's? You can pick up a nice example for £13,00 - £16,000, more modern, more power, similar MPG, 4WD etc.. I was very close to getting one.

Depends on your circumstances. Are you thinking VAG hatchback, or do you need something that may future proof your circumstances a bit?

I went from my ED30 to an S4 B8. I have done a little modding so far and it is at 475hp with a little more to come soon. I am expecting my second young one any day now. It is a very civilised family car for me that can be either a monster or a brilliant cruiser.

I know what you mean about the S3 - great underpinnings but just something uninspiring about it.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

One of the things that made me hesitate to buy one, on paper its fabulous but I think its missing a personality, my GTI can be a pain in the arse but because of that I love it more.

IS the the 8P more modern than the GTI5 - tbh, an S1 GTI5 can keep tabs if not be slightly quicker in gear, an S1 Eddy would leave it - an S1 S3 and S1 Eddy the Eddy would have the edge from anything but launch.
The S3 interior is well put together but they look old fash.
The GTI6 is a none starter, that TSI engine, hmm - perhaps things had changed...

Something to replace the GTI5... a true leap... M135i / 7R / S4 3.0 :happy2:

This is why the GTI is such a great car, other than an ED30, anything good enough to warrant a change is waaay more money. Such a bargain for what it is. I think the S3 8P does feel newer than the GTI but not by much tbf.

A3/S3's great cars but just look so booring out on the road
Virtually go by un noticed

Unless you want to throw extra 10k at the idea id just stick with the Gti mate

15k is nearly 3x what you can pick up a Mk5 Gti for these days but will you get 3x a better car!

I looked at mk6 Golf R's and Scirocco R's and ended up going for the Golf (although only kept it for 6 months) as the 'Rocco don't have 4wd.. which is one of the big +'s of the R brand

As an 8P driver I would not recommend this. The infotainment systems on the Mk5/Mk6 are miles better. And in my opinion the Mk6 looks better than the 8P.
