Wind noise from drivers door - recommendations please FIXED
« on: August 08, 2015, 05:51:31 pm »
Hello everyone, I am gradually fixing the basics with my new 2006 black GTI (DV / PCV etc).

One of the more troublesome problems is wind noise from the drivers door (top corner near B pillar) at speeds over 50mph.

I don't think its the window seal on the felt seal, pressing the top corner "outwards" makes no difference, when I got the car all the seals were white from age, although no visible tears.

So, should I start with the inner seal attached to the body or the seal on the door?

Is the seal on the door stuck on? If so, it looks beyond my DIY skills.

Anyone had this problem? How did you fix it?

Try some Einszett Gummi Pflege on all the seals and see if that helps.

Thanks that is first I tried, I had some from my old GTI, it got rid of the white marks and made the rubber look in better condition. But the noise is still there.

I have a similar problem but mine happens at any speed and even when stationary. It only happens when the interior fans are on. Very strange problem and a highly annoying noise.

I am having the inner seal replaced next week, my independent specialist stated the inner seal is not glued, so its easier to remove and replace.

Will update shortly.

Hello, had the inner seal replaced today. Unfortunately, wind noise is still present.

Garage said the noise could be "channeled" through another part of the door to the top corner, they want to try and tape the door and see if that fixes it.

Then slowly remove tape to find the area.

Right, after replacing the inner door seal with no fix, the garage suggested a taping all the seals shut and seeing if it could be isolated this way.

After another close visual inspection by myself, I found a very small hole between the rubber seal and B pillar trim (near the BOTTOM of the red arrow) I will upload my own pic when its not raining.

I filled this in with Blu Tack and the noise has gone!

I don't know, you can't get black Blu tack! Any suggestions?

No, have a look at the pic, perhaps a new B pillar trim and the rubber seals around it?

Get new b pillow trims and try it

I suffer with the same wind noise issue and changed to gloss black pillars a while ago but it was still the same.

@david25 How about trying some black Sugru? I reckon that would be perfect for the job.

Thanks, never heard of this stuff, but know I know!

Check if you have the gaps, it might help you as well.
