Took the motor in to the dealer the other day for a service. I'm not keen on my local one at all, but it's still under warranty, so needs much sometimes. Whilst it was in there, I asked them to replace my DV and asked that they ensure a RevG is used. Young lad on the phone seemed unsure, but I tend to get a call closer to the time to confirm, so thought I'd wait for that if they needed anything. When I get there, a different guy serves me and was questioning what it was. I explained and he said he knew what it was. He said they'd replace it if required - I stated that I wanted it replacing regardless of condition as it's not an expensive part. This seemed lost on him. He said he could "probably" get the part if it's required.

Fast forward to pickup time and I'm ready for an argument...they've either replaced it and I'm happy, or they haven't and I'm not. Turned out he spoke to the mechanic and he didn't know either. Mechanic comes out suggesting I get a dump valve...

Also, once they realised what the part was, they had no idea how to identify a RevG.

If it wasn't for the fact they are doing some warranty work for me, the car would never go back there (and it'll go to my local specialist for the DV!)

Work carried out by a VAT registered garage using genuine parts will not affect your warranty. Take it to a specialist and get it sorted!

TBH it's not called a diverter valve. it's like a charge air something or other on ETKA I think

If you knew so much about it you should have given them the part number... or changed it yourself, it's a piece of piss.  :happy2:

Called a turbo cut off valve!

Expect nothing less from any dealers mate majority of them are grease monkeys
My ex brother in law worked at a dealership for few years and a wouldn't trust him to change a bulb on my car never mind anything serious

I think you will always find that what would be commonly replaced from advice on a forum is unheard-of at main dealer's regardless of make and forum, this is usually down to people who buy a car and run it,take it to the dealer for services and repairs and take for granted that if there was a issue with their car, the dealer would know, and the dealers don't normally replace an item that is not normally changed during routine service procedures or if it not so much a "common" issue ie how many dv rupture during normal tune driven by someone who never really drives their car hard?

I've not had any trouble with them in that respect? And I've found the after service care has never been questioned  :confused:

It might be another branch your using maybe and they have 3 in different parts of SO and PO

Mine was serviced at the Shirley branch of PC for some time, if not from new.
When I got it I had to claim for broken air filter parts, struggled to get the wheels off due to seized bolts (they don't remove the wheels at unless there is pad change to do or other repair) which resulted in the bolts needing to be replaced under warranty (there's a thread regarding this). A consequence of this is that both front and rear hubs have now subsequently had failed threads and are obviously out of warranty - cost for this over two jobs is nearly £900. They never even suggested that the hubs may be suspect or that they should check them. I also got notified of one odd shock on the rear when I had an independent inspection done after purchase - apparently it is their policy to only replace the defective part rather than a pair.

I bought mine from them...the vehicle collection was a shambles despite 3 weeks notice. They were servicing it on the morning we collected and we were kept waiting for 2 hours as they had to mot it as well. The salesman who had handled our sale was sacked in the meantime as a result of a disciplinary.

Portsmouth, well they have sales staff with the worst attitude. We were looking at mk6 GTI and asked for a car to be opened so we could have a look. Due to the drizzle on this day the sales person stood in the showroom and unlocked it from there. Didn't even want to talk to us despite us being ready to buy.

Took mine to Portsmouth for diagnostic work under warranty just to cover myself with a suspected fault and I wanted it on file that it had been in for this issue. BIG discussion about who was going to pay for it in the event of no fault found before they'd even consider looking at it, despite warranty. It got quite ugly for the sake of less than half an hours work. By contrast I've had numerous complimentary jobs done at my specialist which PC would have charged me hundreds for by now. My garage recognize loyalty and show appreciation in a way they can apart from taking my money (which is charged at much more reasonable rate than £102/hour).

Parts are OK there, one chap in particular is helpful. None are car enthusiasts though, they are sales people, end of. I've also had the displeasure to made aware of the details of their team briefings and metrics regarding servicing that are not for public consumption. That alone is enough to make you say never.

We all here are enthusiast owners, we are at odds with their policies and ethics. At least I am and I know where I need to take my car to have the care afforded to it that I expect.

Main dealers do not do preventative maintenance, they fix it when it breaks. They also seem to know nothing of these engines foibles.

Haha awful place isn't it! I had a big argument with them last time not going there again! Agreed on how clueless they are, i said about my tsi engine needing the timing chain replaced as it's a well known problem and they turned round and said they have never changed one or known one needing changed???
