Rear Wiper Again!
« on: January 15, 2016, 06:51:45 pm »
My rear wiper sprays but will not wipe.

Is it most likely to be the motor that's packed up in there?

Hello there,

I'd open the boot and check the wiring under the rubber grommet at the top left hand side for chopped/cut wiring.

I've already repaired this a few months ago by soldering in some new wire and heat shrinking the repair.  A brown earth wire had snapped but all others were fine.

Not yet, as I couldn't believe it could be this again. What about the right hand rubber conduit? Do you know the wiring in that one control.

That should be the right hand side light wiring if I'm correct.

The right hand one is for the aerials and the washer tube,  all the lights,  lock and motor are in left hand side
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

Right then.  I found the culprit!

It's the boot lock that's playing up and not correctly reporting its closed position to the wiper motor.  I tested this theory by activating the rear wiper and then opening the boot and manually locking the lock with my fingers.  Then lowering the boot a little, it activated the wiper and it swept in its full motion correctly.

Apparently they are another item that go faulty and especially on the early cars. Mines an AXX engine.

I'm gonna fit the part on Saturday and will report the outcome.  Hopefully, it will be sorted after that.

Replacement latch didn't fix the problem with the rear wiper.

Honestly, I've come across so many post on various forums about this becoming faulty and many people give up and either delete it or just live with it not working.  I'm getting to that point too.  Funny thing is that no faults show up in VAG COM for this part.

Maybe its the wiper motor itself, that's playing silly buggers.
