Zenec nc 2010...will it need an update?
« on: February 20, 2016, 05:44:27 pm »
Bought a Zenec 2010 for my mk5, after my nightmare with Erisin, I have given up on the cheapo Chinese units-don't get me wrong, I'm sure if your luck is better than mine & you get a decent one there fully loaded & are a bargain.
Instead I started looking at a second hand dnx521 & a Zenec 2011+ with a budget of £300.
I found a bargain though, older than I wanted but cheap, fella says on the advert that the aerial reception is poor, so I wondered if it'll need an update as I'm sure I read somewhere that someone did an update that cured a few radio bugs?
Anyone had any experiance with this unit?
Anyone updated one? Not sure how I'll even do it! Only got iPads here! Lol.

I was considering that one for when I chop in my other car.
It is missing some bits, like the USB box, TMC antenna (if you want it), remote and if it doesn't have a lilac plug with a black/red cables, then you'll need that to use the internal mic.

I had one for years, got quite tempramental after some time. The zenec website has updates, which are now a few years old. If you don't have the box, at least get a 1-2m USB extension cable. You need a 4-8GB USB stick for updating, the instructions are on a pdf on the download page.

Radio is not as good as OEM but good enough I found may need a dual fakra amplifier.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

Skard, do you mean the one from Lithuania ?
It's not that one, this was another off eBay, all complete with all wires tmc, canbus, GPS, mic, the lot.
I did consider that one but didn't get a reply from zenec when I enquired about the missing leads, so I gave up.

It was £130 in UK, good it came with the lot as they add up, I never saw them in the pics. Can easily get them from Germany if needed.
I have a E-2014M at the moment but just want something that retains the aftermarket camera to possibly chuck in if it gets traded.

The NC-2010 has a poor way of updating via USB, so when you do it ensure you don't lose battery charge

You were right!
Radio turned up & no lilac plug..no mic! Not happy, fella said it was all there, also the White fakra socket on the back of the unit is broken, again, not happy about that.
On top of all that the dvd drive is really noisy, noisy enough to annoy me!
Fella is playing dumb stating it was fitted by a pro & knows nothing.
If I can't find the plug & get the aerial repaired cheap I'll be returning it.

Any suggestions? Apart from sling it back!! Lol.

Look up ACR-hof on german ebay, they stock spares. Internal mic jumper plug is about a tenner delivered, much better than an external mic.
I'd have took it off you but got an RCD510 now.

Try a DVD cleaner disc, rarely used mine and had the same for four years, but when I did it was never noisy, so it may be faulty.

It was a bit cheap, might have been for a reason....

I didn't ask but the seller accepted a return, I suppose in my golf I want quality, I should save up really & get a new kenwood or new zenec, I don't think it'll be an easy repair & I don't have time for messing about with it.
Shame as the BT worked perfectly! Apart from no mic..

I think I'm too fussy for second hand unless it's mint.
