Golf 5 Variant: Highline MFD + MFSW + Cruise Control Retrofit Help Needed

[mbtsir]

Hey everyone (first post here),

I'm hoping someone can help me out here. I've got a 2007 Golf 5 Variant and I want to retrofit a Highline MFD, a MFSW, the wiper stalk with the MFD control button, and cruise control.

Right now, my instrument cluster has the VAG number 1K0 920 853 Q. Under the steering wheel module in VCDS, I found 1K0 953 549 BB (not 100% sure if that's the correct one to look at).

From what I've gathered so far, I think I need a Highline cluster (not sure if it has to be 972, 973, etc.), and I'd have to code it with the correct PIN, mileage, and so on.

What I'm not sure about is the correct order to install everything. Like, when should I add the MFSW, the wiper stalk, and cruise control(Before or after if it even makes a difference)? Also, would I need a new steering control module to make the MFSW buttons work? Or could I just buy the buttons (like from AliExpress), fit them in, and code them somehow?

Sorry for all the questions — I've never done a retrofit like this before, so any help or guidance would be super appreciated! Bonus points if you can point me to which parts would actually work.

Thanks in advance!

There's a chart somewhere here with all the steering wheel control modules and what functions they support. My advice is to get one of those ebay/aliexpress modules ending with CH and the latest gen cruise control and wiper stalk. Cruise control ends with G, no idea about the wiper.

Fit all at once but make sure you save the old eprom data from the cluster along with the data from the steering wheel computer. If you swap out either the cluster or steering wheel, you'll need to re-code both to work with one another so you might as well do it all at once.

I'm not sure if you need any extra wiring but when I installed scirocco clocks and a 12 button steering wheel, I had to swap out all of the things I mentioned above. I've had the highline clock and multi function wheel by default.

My final advice is, if you are going through the trouble of fitting clocks and a steering wheel, you might as well do the scirocco ones cause they look so much better and offer more functionality. It'll take a bit to get used to the scirocco clock speed but it's helpful that the MFD can display speed and also oil temp.

Thank you so much for your answer🙏. I'll look into the scirocco ones.

Oh yah, I forgot to mention. The scirocco clocks need specific ABS pumps. If you have an older one or one that's not compatible, you'll need to change that too.

Have a read through this post https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,112537.0.html

Mk5 ABS pumps that work with the scirocco cluster:
