Just can't decide whether to go DIY or hand it over to a specialist (I'm thinking specialist at the minute )For the chain (and all the work I had done), I went ahead and bought the parts myself and had them fitted by a local VAG specialist. I have neither the tools nor space to do it myself. Buying parts from genuineautoparts.com was a breeze - hadn't heard much about this site but proved to be a good deal cheaper than many other places, for genuine VW, and were a pleasure to deal with. The specialist just charged me 5hrs labour. I reckon I saved quite a bit by souring the parts myself!
Well, both in a way. That car is sponsored by Dodson Motorsport so it will be using their uprated transmission gears, oil pump gears and FWD gears. Dodson supply the gears to customers and sponsors and I make the gears for them. I work at the gear manufacturing company cutting and grinding the the gears. Probably shouldn't say who I work for on a public forum though, so I won't.
