bought some oil as im sure the garage I bought my car from 2 months or so ago would have put the cheapest crap in, prob just topped it up with crap come to think of it so I went out and bought the best.
two 5 litre bottles
one for top ups and one for a complete change

bought from Halfords, expensive at £46 for 5 litres but needs must, so that was £92 just for oil

also finally got my chrome switches delivered today from Hong Kong, look very cool and oem stamped

now got these and my mk6 mfsw to fit at some point but trying to source some tinted led European rear cluster lights first

Should have got that oil from euro car parts, can usually get 20 - 30% off. Would be much cheaper!

nope
http://www.eurocarparts.com/basket.php
only a few pound cheaper through them on older stock
they are charging £86.92 for two 4 litre bottles, my price is £92.00  for two (((5))) litres bottles, since the golf holds around 4.7 litres a 5 litre bottle is perfect so to do a complete oil change on 1 bottle,
remember there are 2 different variations of the Castrol edge out there, the other one is about £10 a bottle cheaper but it isn't the correct one for an 08 gti  :happy2:

lol muppet me, I thought they where 5 litre bottles, sorry long day on my own with the 2 kids shopping and they where running about mad in Halfords, then running about mad in b & q, oh and then running about daft in asda followed by running about daft in mcdonalds
so yes they are cheaper on line but a couple of quid I guess, I kinda wanted it bought and out the way as my oil light came on the other day and I put 2 litres of garage cheap rubbish in to buy me time ( no point topping up with good stuff as the garage I bought the car from would have put cheap crap in to begin with )
so I will arrange a proper oil change soon after getting a filter from vw.
still expensive oil guys as you say and who knows if it REALLY is any better, I don't tbh

Took the car to the local supermarket car wash for a scrub.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

No, not mad. Basically can't wash the car on the road as usual. Went to the local supermarket that has jetwashing bays. Didn't use anything other than the pressure washer itself. Took my own supersprayer for citrus presoak, my two buckets were prefilled, took a load of microfibres, towels and quick detailer. It was quite pleasurable since I didn't have to worry about being run over.

still expensive oil guys as you say and who knows if it REALLY is any better, I don't tbh

All I know Is the castrol edge meets VWs specification

My oil change isn't due for 2000 miles but I've booked a ramp for next sat to swap my exhaust over so I will be doing an oil change while I have access to a ramp to make it easier (I'd rather change my oil early than not be able to do it when there is snow or ice on the ground when its due)

I was £70 for 8l of oil and a VW filter and £30 for 3 hours of the ramp
Just got to get an exhaust gasket and new nuts from TPS as I can't find them online

Finally had my new wheel fitted last week and just give it a good old clean. Just because I wanted to play with my new snow foam lance.

And here are the results.
