Rolex is as good as a gold bar for an investment.....

Got my explorer II in Jersey. The same movement in it was the first mechanical thing on the top  of everest....back in the day....sort of takes the expression if it ain't broke to the next level!!

Worth about double now what I paid for it 6 years ago.

IWC are a fine watch. Up there with if not above rolex for quality..

I got a couple of reallly really good Rolex watches when i was last in Afghanistan.

They were both limited edition as one was a "Ralgex" and the other a "Rolodex"

I have seen a 'Bolex'! :signLOL:

Regarding value enhancements, when I bought my IWC, I could have bought a nice Paul Numan Daytona for £8-10k !..........

Old Rolex's have really climbed through the roof !!! The best value for top quality movements IMO are Jaeger LC.

Totally agree! I feel the IWC cases is superior but when it comes to movement only thing that beats Rolex is patik Phillip

There was a thread some time ago with quite a few of members fine watches. I can only find 2 previous threads but they dont have that many replies.

I also said I didnt see the point in wearing so much money round your wrist but im slowly coming round to wanting a nice watch. Knocked drinking on the head so I wont be worried about damaging it when pi$$ed up now  :signLOL:
I would defo go for a Rolex if you don't want to lose money! It's even more prevelent at the moment with the interest rate. It's like wearing your savings on your arm

Why is the word watch un-pc?

I guess its not but I was corrected by VC some time ago  :signLOL:

Guess it was my ignorance towards the watch world.

There is a dealer on ebay I got my Citizen Skyhawk from.Excellent service.
I was looking at the skyhawk AT and promaster SST at one point. But then I bought this:

Like vrs carl's but with a green dial instead of blue. Used for daily wear.

I also have one of these as my "special occasions" watch:

Not really much of a watch-wearer though.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Indeed some nice watches.

Know this statement will go against the grain, but I just don't 'get' the Rolex thing.
I know they are classy, retain/increase in value and well made but I honestly think they're a bit naff looking.

Might be due to the number of fakes that are out there meaning that there are loads in circulation but I see a Rolex and think you have to be at least 60 to own one.
I just have the image of Bobby George, the bejewelled darts player in mind when thinking of the standard Rolex owner.

My list: 2x TAG's (1x Chrono, 1 x Battery) and a recent Oris Chronometer, purchased on a whim, as they sponsor the F1 Team with the same name as me - Williams, currently doing pretty poor in F1.

Current watch lusting is for the Panerai range, I think they look pretty cool.

Think my reasons for buying one is I always wanted one as a child. There are a lot of fakes about that's why I always wear mine in the pool/sea!

I also feel its a whole brand thing! They also started a lot of ideas with wathes and are one of the few who only make internals for their watchs. Lots of others share! The Rolex watches you are thinking of are normally big gold affairs.

I agree with the panerai! Lovely pieces.
