Think he works at Darkside now? Could be wrong but I'm sure that's what I heard.

I know this is an old, like me, thread...and John Hurdy has probably answered this for me before; but I swear I had seen somewhere some had tested how much HP can be made using the stock air-box and performance filter with the EA113 engine. Anyone seen this discussed or know first hand? Not really seeking guesses, I just respond to some asking this question with "I believe I recall some saying near 400 BHP, but not actually able to get to 400." I would like to have my memory refreshed...thank you.

It's restrictive above 330 bhp with a K04. You can get more from it by forcing the turbo. With a 1.4 bar peak boost from a K04 I got more ~12 bhp just by replacing the OEM stock air box with a VWR panel filter, with a VWR cold air intake. When adding octane booster on my 98 octane petrol I went from 335 bhp to 355 bhp with the CAI.

Mine topped out at 330hp with the factory airbox and paper filter.

With an aftermarket filter, 360-370 is achievable.  I'm basing that on a dyno tuner that's probably tuned close to 100 of them, so the data is reliable.  That is from a stock K04 engine running 1.5 - 1.6 bar boost with 3"+ downpipe and uprated HPFP.  The factory cat back doesn't really restrict flow that much, so a full system is down to personal noise preferences.

400 isn't doable with a K04. Well, you might be able to see that once or twice on a cold dyno pull pushing it to 2 bar, but after the 5th or 6th run it will drop right down again, and 2 bar isn't sustainable.
