Thank you Raj. Yes, I had the front and rear OPS parking sensors installed. I shared a picture on the opening post showing them working. :wink:

I've gone to another track day at Estoril last March. Now for the first time with the Bilstein B16, the LSD and the TTE420 fitted. It confirmed that the OEM brake discs can't handle the Carbotech XP20, even braking lightly before the corners. So I've decided to upgrade the front brake setup and some other bits.

Parts bought since the track day:
-Set of TTRS 8J calipers in good condition, painted red and with white GTI letters (8J0615107A; 8J0615108A)
-Front 2-piece 362x32mm disc & caliper carrier kit - allows fitment of 4 piston TTRS/RS3 Brembo calipers (DI0003)
-PFC 11 compound brake pads (1001)
-Brake pads mount kit (8J0698269 x2)
-Passat B6/S3 8P aluminium spindles with wheel bearings (3C0407257F and 3C0407258F)
-Other small bits needed (WHT005437 x2; WHT000785 x4; N91084901 x4)
-RS3 suspension control arm air ducts (8P0863149B; 8P0863150B; N10422203 x2; N90761102 x2; 8P0864133A x2)
-SuperPro adjustable ball joints (TRC0003)
-SuperPro rear heavy duty sway bar link kit (TRC1045L)
-Used AKS Tuning VAG TFSI cam follower to TSI cam follower roller conversion kit from @Pudding
-HPPF seal (WHT005184) and timing chain cover gasket (06D103121B)
-Revised engine oil dipstick (06F115611F)
-PolarFIS Advanced PF04

I finally went to pickup the calipers today. I wish the painter centred better the letters. I hope it won't be that noticeable once fitted in the car.

Some serious weight loss here!

Can't wait to see how it will handle with this weight reduction on the front wheels. Just on the discs will be 4,4 kg reduction per corner. Pads, calipers and spindles will also be lighter. :smiley:

The calipers themselves I don't think so. I had to change to these TTRS calipers because I couldn't source 355 mm 2-piece floating discs from AP Racing for the Brembo 18Z. The only source I found was Girodisc in the USA, but it would be very expensive. So expensive that I think in the long run this brake setup change makes more sense. Sent 3 emails to Reyland Motorsport requesting custom bells for the Brembo 18Z. They never replied...

Thanks for the comment on the letters. I made the letters myself using Paint. :signLOL: I later sent the BMP file with the size I wanted to a guy who works with vinyl stuff. :smiley:

The car looks superb and I've just realized that I've choose the wrong color for my TD wheels. The up-sprung weight saving is always good and it will be felt, but there is also rotational mass reduction.  :happy2:

I've also used Carbotech XP20 and they are generating tremendous amount of heat despite my brake ducts. In the end, I switched to Pagid. I think that's why the OEM discs can't handle them.

I don't think you chose the wrong colour for your wheels, because they look awesome! Maybe they don't hide as well the brake pad dust, I guess... :confused:

The Carbotech XP20 are too hardcore for me for that reason. They can really make a lot of heat. No OEM discs can handle that! :scared:

Yesterday I had time to get the front brakes fitted (finally!). :smiley:

We started with lots of boxes and plastic bags. :surprised:


The 362 mm AP Racing disc just looks the business. :love:


All fitted with no issues.




Plenty of wheel spoke clearance. :jumping:


Parts fitted:

I was so happy when we confirmed that these brake discs clear the SuperPro ball joints and the wheels spokes!!! :pomppomp:

PS: Now I need to get the wheel tracking done. The new aluminium spindles changed it a lot! :surprised:
PSS: I also have new ATE 310 mm rear brake discs and new Ferodo DS2500 rear pads to fit.

I found the same with the Passat spindles, it completely threw the toe angle out....a LOT!

The tie rod mounting arm looked lower compared to the GTI's by eye, but I never measured the height difference.  Adding the 5mm taller Passat / SuperPro ball joints to the Passat spindles is great for reducing bump steer  :happy2:   Probably a minor benefit on a smooth track, but on bumpy country roads, it really helps.

It is weird how the Passat got all the good stuff but it's not even a 'performance' car  :grin:

Fwiw fitting the superpro (passat) lca and bjs onto my stock gti hubs changed the toe enormously also! Think the cars with the heavy 345mm brakes got alloy arms and hubs to offset some of the weight gain.

Passat was mostly 312mm brakes as per the GTI, and the R32 got cast steel hubs.   I wonder if the Jetta got alloy parts?   I think it VW just consider the Passat and Jetta more 'premium' than the Golf.  How about the 6R vs S3?

I already had the S3/Passat ball joints fitted that with a bit of trimming on the cast were possible to run without rubbing the discs. Unfortunately when I tried to fit the SuperPro ball joints before no reasonable trimming solved the rubbing issue (and the ball joint boots ruptured as well). :sad1:
