Mk5 General Area / Re: What did you and your MKV do today?

On a positive note, I have noticed that my exhaust tips have become a lot less black/sooty (90% less) since the lambda replacements, so the car must be running a lot more efficiently now  :happy2:
Have you noticed better fuel consumption or is it too soon to tell. I was surprised how quick mine get sooty and I'd like to see an increase MPG.

Have you done the cam follower for the HPFP. Might as well change it if not as it has to come out.

I also refreshed the vacuum pump seals as a while your in there and it too has to come off.

do you have a part number for the  cam casing seal rings?

So I have the INA tensioner, chain and adjuster & elring rocker cover gasket and timing cover gasket & new bolt for the adjuster, anything else missing?

Just need to source the special tools now.

Engine was chucked back in as a dummy engine to mount the manifold and turbo (pulsar G25-660) and dummy wastegate.

Custom wing

Annoyed a few people drilling into my genuine xenon’s …

Decided to relocate firebox inside the car to give the turbo set up more space.

Much better!

Always love the rear end of this car, it’s always looked mega IMO. However, the front never really looked aggressive enough I think.

So, I went to ABS Motorsport for more fibreglass goodies, vented bonnet, bootlid and an BTCC EVO 1 bumper to match the second hand wings I picked up for a bargain.

Oil cooler is a perfect fit! Just some type of mesh over the front and that’ll do nicely.

That’s where I’ve got to as of last week.

There’s still an easy £5/6k that needs outing imo this car to finish it. Which really does make me think about selling up again and buying an E92 M3 as a track car as they’re becoming a little more sensible money. But who knows

Sorry for the massive update!

Thanks if you’ve been through all of that and got this far I appreciate it.

I had lots of interest in parts from the golf, however, the only thing I didn’t get huge amounts of interest in was the shell so I decided to keep it and build an engine for it.

When building the golf I decided to stick a sunstrip on “Dinger Developments” I had a lot of people asking me to do the odd job on their cars which in the end progressed into full builds etc. I then made the big jump to quit my full time job and go out on my own and push Dinger Developments. Within months I’d outgrown the old workshop and moved into a workshop over double the size. This meant the golf took a back seat. In fact, I hadn’t touched it for over a year other than moving it to the new workshop and pushing it around while I set up.

Old workshop:

Gold in the new home collecting a lot of dust.

As mentioned - I decided to build an engine for the golf. I also had another crazy idea… big turbo.

This involved many new parts. So I’d decided to change the build, brakes, exhaust, ko4 swap, battery, intercooler l, intake and more was sold.

Sidewinder manifold bought:

Big welly cooler bought and mounted:

Got invited to Ramair stand at a castle Combe Action Day in which they offered me lots of free track time

My little brothers hydro’d polo GTI got painted too. Matching plates:

Golf loaded up once more for a track day

This time a very wet Anglesey

Another track day at castle combe end of October 2022 - this would be the last time the golf would be out. However, some bloody cool pictures!

Many fun sessions with Eddie and Jack before it all went wrong.

By the afternoon of said track day the golf was acting very odd… it wouldn’t boost properly at all was really really odd. Loaded it back up and took it to the workshop.

HPFP failure. I inspect the follower after every day so I was amazed to see this sight

Chunks of cam follower and HPFP internals in the sump - game over.

I decided not to do anything with the car for a while and even thought about selling up.

These mounts are great!

Lick of paint and an airdam:

Extended the end pieces of airdam

Loaded up for another track day

So the colour reveal…

On the way to Blyton Park for the VWG Magazine track day.

These were the pictures I used to reveal the colour on social media.

I’ve always like the look of Nardo grey, but it’s been done so much I had a good think and looking to be different with the colour I found Porsche Crayon Grey. There was also darker metallic colours thrown into the mix including Oak Green, but for touch ups etc a gloss colour seemed to be the best option.

Got the plates back on ready to take it out for a blast with a couple of mates

Some pictures came through from the track day at Blyton park:

Love this shot…

The a slight issue when I was out having that blast with some mates…

The car was very very Smokey on de-acceleration, after a compression and leak down test it was believed to be dreaded ring land failure.

Thankfully I had a spare BWA engine kicking about.

Swapped the engine over and took it out for a test drive and was all good!
