R-Tech Remap Review - Stage 1
« on: April 26, 2013, 02:08:53 pm »
First off I would like to point out I am not a big forum poster. I enjoy going online and reading about cars and projects and perusing the classifieds for bargains to strap onto my car. But after reading some recent posts, I believe my review may help people decided where to get there car mapped.

Why R-Tech & why yesterday:
Yesterday morning the plans for my day dramatically changed leaving me with a few hours free in the afternoon. Since owning the Golf I had always intended to have it mapped but had convinced myself to wait until I had more hardware installed. But due to my free afternoon I don’t know why, but impulsively I gave R-Tech a call as I was only 20 minutes away. Unfortunately they were fully booked up, which is what I fully expected (being a previous customer I was aware they are fully booked weeks in advance.)
30 Minutes later I have a call back from Ben saying that 3 cars they had booked in had cancelled for one reason or another and if  I was still available then to pop up!

R-Tech Experience:
I arrived slightly early, so I waited in the new waiting area while they got the previous car off the rollers. In that time I watched abit of Top Gear and was offered tea and biscuits.
10 Minutes later, my car was being strapped to the rollers having a full visual inspection and diagnostic session (the part many tuners completely leave out.)
Once Nick had given it the all clear he gave it a run on the rolling road to see what it was producing.

My Car Spec:
Mk5 Golf GTI 2.0 TFSI
Turbo Back Exhaust (3’’ BCS with 200 Cell Sports Cat)
REV G Diverter Valve
Full Tank of Tesco Momentum 99

Initial Run:
215bhp & 240 ft/lb Torque

I was pleased with the initial figures and Nick was happy to proceed and put a stage 1 remap on. By the above results it would appear that my BCS TBE had added approximately 15bhp.

After a few runs on the rolling road and a few tweaks of the map, Nick said my car responded really well. The car finally made 258 BHP & 302 ft/lb Torque. Before any money was exchanged, I took the car out and as expected it was perfect. Pulls hard and smooth right up to the redline. Really was night and day compared to the stock map.

Why did I decide to write a little review?
I keep seeing threads pop up along the lines of ‘R-Tech vs Other Tuner’ & ‘Should I go to R-Tech’, and even after all the positive reviews on every Forum online people are choosing other software which in my opinion is inferior to the mapping and services offered by R-Tech.

Having owned several manufacturers cars, visited many ‘specialist tuners’, tried various handheld generic mapping devices, tried other recommended VAG tuners for Remaps (prior to finding R-Tech)…
I now just wouldn’t go or recommend anywhere else.

-   Customer service is second to none
-   It’s a known fact that Nick is leading the way with 1.8T & 2.0TFSI mapping
-   The maps are perfect, no massive deceptive boost spikes, just smooth progressive power all the way to the red line.
-   Price cannot be beaten
-   After sales & support is great if you have any queries or problems
-   Also noticed that my original remap review for my 1.8T is still featured on their website which was a nice surprise when I was searching for their contact details

If you’re considering a remap, give Nick a ring or even better pop in and show your face. The guys are all friendly and very approachable. I will definitely be back to Nicks in the future once I have added some more hardware for an updated map.

Not just yet, have shown my interest but currently recovering from mild traumatic head injury, so off work and stuff, so not happening yet, though seems way to go, they need my car 2-3 days full live map...

Sorry to hear that dude. Wishing you have a speedy recovery  :happy2:

I'm in a similar boat re: the map. I like the feedback of R-tech and Nick clearly seems to know his stuff, but I wonder whether the loss of car and extra expense will outweigh the benefit over the existing Revo Stg3. If my car wasn't already mapped for the K04, i'd deffo head straight to R-tech.

ive said that about a company before.  That bit me in the a$$

I do like the sound of RTEC though. I like the fact that they are only concentrating on 2 engines atthe moment, the 1.8T and the 2.0TFSI.  That means they wil build up a strong specialty in these engines, unlike other companies who are mapping every engine under the sun as well as other manufacturers etc.
