Joshy's Mk5 Golf Gti build thread
« on: February 07, 2014, 08:39:59 pm »
This morning i traded in my corsa and drove away in my golf :driver:
The car is awesome, i'm in love. Still getting used to drive with the DSG gearbox though!

My main plans for this are:
- Air
- R32 rear bumper
- BCS exhaust system
- Some smoothing work
- Vortex front lip
- Forge twintake (maybe a differ CAI)
- Stage 1 remap
- Badgeless grill

That will will probably grow but thats the "main" stuff for now. I'll probably do the little things like rear wiper delete, debadge the rear and colour code the rear emblem!

Thank you mate! What do you recommend instead of this!? I think the first thing today is paint that silver rear emblem! I need to colour code it.

Here's my rear badge,

As for the stereo, you have 2 choices:

1- I have the kenwood dnx520vbt which is a touch screen with built in garmin sat nav, parrot Bluetooth hands free, iPhone/iPod connectivity, tv (needs extra tuner) and DVD player. This is made for VW by kenwood and is a straight fit with no other modifications/extras.  Approx £450 on the net
http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/products/car/vw/DNX520VBT/

2- rns510, touch screen sat nav, iPhone/iPod connectivity, shows the climate/parking sensors/rear view on the screen Extra Bluetooth module need for phone connection though. Possibility of battery drain on pre 06 cars due to the canbus leaving the power on (I don't know the exact reason for this) approx £400 for the unit
http://www.advanced-incar.co.uk/volkswagen-rns-510-navigation

There are lots of other options but I would avoid the Asian copies (not saying there's anything wrong with them) and if possible think about the dab versions of these!

Hope this helps

James

I will have a look at the HU mate! They both do look better than mine.
Your rear badge looks awesome mate. I'm not sure what to do to mine. Either leave the logo silver and colour code thr bit behind the logo OR colour code everything!

I was actually thinking of wrapping those trims! Was thinking of doing them in alcantara but i've not used it before. Carbon maybe the better option! Is there a tutorial on how to remove them?

There's a fella on here called brookesb32 who customises rear badges contact him and  discuss the options, mines a mk6 rear badge I think!

One of the new moderators on hear xjay has a mate that does trimming and can do most parts in alcantara, wrapping will be easier and cheaper and there are loads of guides/videos on how to wrap interior parts. Buy yourself a trim removal kit then follow this http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=3968.0

I have a Pioneer avh2500bt in mine. They do ones higher up with in built sat nav if that's what you want. Like mine. Works great with Bluetooth and iPod. And look very at home in the dash as well.
I picked mine up for £100 haha

Yh they're only a few quid from vw but you'll probably find it pops off again like mine! I asked my local vag specialist and he said it's not a big deal during winter months but in summer (if we get one) you might be taking in too much warm air from the engine bay. Looks like you're planning on upgrading anyway so wouldn't worry  :happy2:

XJay1337 - Absolutely steal that! Will have a look around and keep on eye on the for sale section/ebay

M1Whitey - Yeah i understand! Will have a look online for one if its getting warmer and i haven't upgraded the intake yet!

Leigh200sx - Thank you! I was impressed with the spec when i first look at the car which is one of the reasons i bought it. The BCS sounds pretty amazing. Think i'm going for the one without the power valve though. I think i need to wait till i've got a r32 bumper though as im not sure if you can fit the r32 bumper with a standard exhaust
