Hi, when you fitted your mocal oil cooler do you still keep the plastic oil filter housing, so if you fit the oil cooler do you loose somewhere to have an oil filter?

Hi, with the original take of plate I bought it’s designed around the OEM plastic housing.

I’ve since changed and fitted a FSI oil filter housing which is alloy. And tig welded AN fittings on.

Did your take off plate look like this?




The plastic oil filter housing has an coolant outlet, I've drawn on roughly where it would be, that would have run through the original cooler. How did you blank that outlet and the coolant hose that connects to the old cooler?

Yes exactly that.

Umm I can’t quite remember now. I think I put a blanking end cap on the metal pipe just above it.

Got a few hours at the unit yesterday and managed to get the drivers seat mounted.

They hold me in so well. I think down the line I may get the front half of the cage redone - I’ve never been happy with how it turned out and with these seats it’s a bit tricky getting in

It's a Custom Cages fabrication isn't it? Interesting you say you're not happy with the front, thought those guys were meant to be the leaders in cage building in the country.

Something I gorget to mention that I had bought during the Black Friday offer:

Coolerworx pro shifter (top mounted)





Ordered with a red knob too.

Absolute PIA to fit! rear mounting holes didn't line up, crap support from Coolerworx (including the numerous amount of times I had to chase where it was took over a month to come), no instructions (even though advertised with them) Had to make up a plate out of 2.0mm stainless to fit it. Listed on the website as 02M/02J/02Q and to fit many cars. But I think its made for a MK4 golf or similar. Also, no though about the massive hole in the tunnel that would have been left.

Quite fiddly to get set up.





Other than the fitting it works and looks great!

I think if id paid full price as apposed to the BF offer I would be sending it back and getting CAE.

Been out on a collection of parts today after winning on eBay.

6x Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2 18X9 wheels. Not sure of the offset will have to measure them.

4 came with Dunlop Direzza 235/40/18 would have preferred 245 but for the price paid on the lot I won’t complain!

2 came with Yokohama AO52 in 245/40/18

All great life on them!

Seller then explained he’d sold 3 Direzza on eBay to another chap but was messing him about with collection so offered them to me for £60!





Was a bit of a squeeze in a fiesta! Got there in the end though.







Not sure how to set up the wheels now that I have 10 in total.

Think something along the lines of 6 dry/track wheels, then the other 4 wet/road wheels?

Wow, almost 3 years since I updated this thread and a whole lot has happened! I’m currently on holiday and sat by the pool a little bored so thought I’d update you all.

Random moody shot…



I had an A3 Quattro that I had as a donor as I had thought about possibly going 4WD and thought against it pretty soon after but the Audis use aluminium crash bars that also fit the golf, just. But it’s a little weight saving…



First track day for it in March 2022 not long after I last posted in this thread:






The day was good other than a safety map cutting the rev limit very low every time the oil temp hit 100°c, spoke with TSR and usual brilliant after sales said to get it down to them and they upped the limit on the map. I also spoke with a few other people and decided to swap out my 13 row oil cooler for a 25 row to help aid oil cooling.



A few other track days and sessions at castle Combe Circuit. Successful days

After many different decisions about a new colour I finally settle on something!

Started to prepare the car for paint:

I’d never really like the fact the standard side skirts didn’t flow the arch kit so I modified some from a MK1 LCR to fit. Also fitted a functioning roof scoop (gets so hot in the car with poly carbs)

So the colour reveal…




On the way to Blyton Park for the VWG Magazine track day.



These were the pictures I used to reveal the colour on social media.

I’ve always like the look of Nardo grey, but it’s been done so much I had a good think and looking to be different with the colour I found Porsche Crayon Grey. There was also darker metallic colours thrown into the mix including Oak Green, but for touch ups etc a gloss colour seemed to be the best option.










Got the plates back on ready to take it out for a blast with a couple of mates

The a slight issue when I was out having that blast with some mates…

The car was very very Smokey on de-acceleration, after a compression and leak down test it was believed to be dreaded ring land failure.

Thankfully I had a spare BWA engine kicking about.




Swapped the engine over and took it out for a test drive and was all good!
