I have a week off work I was hoping for better weather to try out my ChipEx kit and do some more machine polishing

Instead, I took the wheels off and cleaned up the inside of the rims and gave the calipers a good scrub. They'll need a repaint at some point as they're not in the best shape and have gone abit pink.

Found one of my CV boots leaking :sad1: and a screw in a tyre  :sad1:

Let us know what the Chipex kit is like.  Been meaning to get one for mine, although I think I'd need a week off work to fill all my chips in

Bummer on the CV boot.  Did both of mine last weekend, very straight forward job, although I would recommend the purchase of some very manly CV clip pliers.  Tons on Amazon.

In regard to the chipex kit I can save you the £30-£40 for it, here's the 2 versions of a home kit;

1.
Paint touch up pen from Volkswagen (£8)
Masking Tape
1200 grit sand paper
3000 grit disc
(optional) 6000 grit disc
Meguiars ultimate compound and your preferred polish regime (Doesn't have to be meguiars etc just a good strong cutting compound 6000 grit disc reduces the need for a heavy cut compound)

2.
Volkswagen paint touch up pen (£8)
Paint fine line pen £14 and link - http://www.carolescraftsuk.co.uk/product-p/490926.htm

this way there's no sanding so may suit more people it takes longer though as you're doing tiny dots into the stone chip so to avoid "overfilling" it with paint so you don't need to level it.

Video for the 2nd method too!

Hope this helps someone

Second that.

I had a brand new set of pliers from eBay and they actually sheared mid use.

Such a pain, total headache then using a normal pliers.

You sir are a legend!  I watched that very video recently (epic bodywork skills!) and wondered where on earth to get one of those fine line paint tools from!  Going to order that now  :happy2:

I got some with 1/2" ratchet drive slots in each arm and it was still a ball ache and hard work crimping the darn things up fully tight.  I'd love to see what VW use in the factory for that job!!  Probably some robotic arm with mega pincers on it or something.

Got new OEM shocks, droplinks, bumpstops and topmounts along with Eibach Pro Kit going on tomorrow, sadly I'm away with work until Wednesday so won't be able to drive it until then.

Currently running Sportline kit, but want to raise it slightly. Sportline kit will be for sale by the way!
