And two more. Can't wait for fit the new suspension. The front is really low, guess it's got 150k+ kms on it this vogtland. Really bouncy and rubbing the fenders on 70 degree+ turns when it loads up. These 4s are crazy, I was getting mad understeer with the conti sportcontact 5s. Different car.

Amazing ride and no more rubbing, no more scraping the lip on my garage incline. Surprisingly comfortable also. Best $ ever spent so far.  :driver:

Made a stew. A few dabs of WD40 & brake cleaner and she'll be as good as new.

That looks nasty keep us updated on the rebuild.  :popcornsoda:

Will do. Cost would've been too high to rebuild this one, cylinder walls looked like a total mess, pistons also... 300k KMs block. Will try to sell what parts I get left with, might make for a good project for someone looking to throw some $$ at it.

I ended up getting a used CDL engine with 72k miles (or so they said). Block looks good, pistons look good, driveshaft & bearings also. Cams looked better than mine but it has 4 leaking valves so I took the cylinder head to have it rebuilt.

Took the injectors to have them cleaned and redone with seals and what not, 4 brand new ones were out of my budget with how much I spent so far. Guy said it was not injector failure that caused the boom but a bad valve which broke, hitting the injector head and the piston, it was not opening all the way or something along those lines. At first I thought I had a bad injector on cyl 4 which caused all the mayhem.

Turbo was also on it's way out sooner or later, blades were touching the casing and I found oil on my intercooler pipe. Took that to have it rebuilt also.

Hope she turns out ok. Guess this tired engine didn't have the best compression hence why I was making 25-30hp less on the same tune with the same parts as a friend of mine. Should pull harder, hopefully it lasts for a good bit. :driver:

Had the turbo redone. It had shaft play, blades were touching the casing. They looked pretty sh*tty.

Cylinder head done. No more leaking and looks mint. Got the injectors cleaned, along with changing seals and microfilters. Hopefully she'll be back on the road by the end of this week.

Not as exciting as the last post but cv boots / tracking / engine oil / gearbox oil / brake fluid / plugs / filter have just been done. It’s been @12k since I last fitted iridiums and the car is now boosting up smoother and sooner than before. Mental note to change them more often. Went for the liquimoly green oil this time instead of millers nt.

Been a while, but recently;

I've had the headliner redone. Cost was $850usd for the upholsterer work, and $675usd for the VW shop to remove and reinstall it.

Found a leak, accidentally, in the DV relocation at where the AWE Tuning's DV-mount connects to the side of the intake-to-turbo hose. I was reversing the position of the DV and mount and a tightening of its clamp was all it took (clamp location shown in the picture). Apparently it wasn't secured tightly enough, when the turbo was replaced in 2021. This dropped the LT-fuel trim (partial) from near +10% to +4.7%.

And soon I am having the seats recovered with Katzkin by one of their dealers. Just doing so with leather that's a close enough match to the original color; nothing fancy. The cost will be $1325usd for both fronts and the rear.

Damn, nice work! Keep us posted!

Thinking about doing a CDL swap when my AXX gives in. Going strong so far, plan to go KO3 hybrid soon at 145k miles.

I did lots of things whilst the car was off the road over the last 4 days I've been meaning to do for 5-6 years...

As mine is a 4Motion TDI, and taking the front of isn't hard or takes that long, plus I was fitting a larger intercooler, I opted to remove the engine for this work.

New turbo
New Sachs clutch kit (inc DMF and CSC)
New genuine VAG timing belt kit + Meyle HD water pump (last done when I got the car in 2015, but I changed idler and tensioner studs this time)
New gearbox end crank seal (Febi)
Front H&R anti roll bar
S3 type intercooler and hard pipe kit.

Glad to have it all on the car. Still alloy wishbones/hubs, rear ARB and new top mounts to fit, but I ran out of time after a few issues... The CSC was bent during shipping and wouldn't fit into the gearbox (discovered on the day) and it snapped trying to straighten it, so I had to source a new one. Also turbo feed pipe wasn't coming undone from the union that screws into the turbo, the whole things was turning, so glad I took the engine out as sorting that, in situ would have been nigh on impossible.

As a note, the 8 year old timing belt was in great condition, I genuinely think it would have done another 8 year/70K. The water pump was OK too but I think that would have probably caused issues before the belt.
