My Mk6 Golf R!
« on: March 20, 2015, 09:42:04 pm »
Around the middle of last year I fell out of love with my previous car and after much deliberation of what to have next, I decided a Golf R was the one for me! Before buying the R I had fancied a TTRS and went to view a couple towards the end of last year, but to cut along story short, I didn't end up buying either. I have always enjoyed the look of the mk6 R and I also the rarity of them is something else I like (Apart from when it comes to locating/buying one).

One of the criteria of the new car was it had to have a lot of potential for modification, especially as it has less power from the factory than what it replaces. After a lot of research and coming across Hurdy's build thread among others I had made my mind up.

So after checking autotrader/pistonheads/ebay almost every day for a few months I found this Deep Black example and after viewing and test driving it, as well as a helping of peer pressure, I bit the bullet and brought it.

(Points to whoever can guess my old car in the background  :happy2:)

My plan for it even before buying it was to get it to S2+ ready for the summer, so after a week or 2 the first mod was purchased - an Evoms intake kit.

Next up was a Peron intercooler, after reading a lot of good reviews about them. This was fitted last week after much swearing and a couple of broken plastic clips.

And this is where i'm up to now. Exhaust is next I think, which was going to be a Milltek but after a few people have said about it i'm quite tempted by a BCS. Would be interested to hear opinions from anyone who has got one of these.

Future ideas after S2+ are wheels and coilovers, and possibly a BT build in a years time or so.

I will try to keep this updated, but for any one on instagram feel free to follow me @joms6r

Thanks for reading, James.

Looks great, actually think I prefer the look of these to the mk7s. Certainly don't see as much of them about as the Mk7s!

Welcome along!

Was the last motor an evo of some description?

I have had both a Miltek system & BCS on mine and for me the BCS is better. The quality of fitment, the service, the sound....

The R looks lovely, you're going to have a lot of fun modding & driving it!!

I'll guess at a Ford Focus, maybe an RS!

I would say Focus ST, bit too high for an RS. Also, there is a BCS group buy on right now, full turbo back system for less than £1100 delivered! Jump on while you can mate.

This just makes me want an R even more than I already do...

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

Hi James, glad my build thread inspired your decision to get a Golf R.

I agree that the MK6 R looks better than the MK7 R and it does have huge potential for power gains. As for the exhaust, BCS is a good choice and you won't be disappointed with it.
When you are ready for a BT kit, drop me a line and we'll chat about your choices.  :happy2:
Golf R gone.

Stunning car fella and as the others say....BCS for the zorst. Ive had my BCS Sport Powervalve for over 2 years and still makes smile like a giggling school girl when on WOT.

And yeap the Mk6 in much better looking than the Mk7.

Happy modding!  :happy2:

Those pictures are making me all flustered. Looks spot on, never really seen a black r but damn.

Gonna throw a spanner in the works, I've got a eurojet turbo back and couldn't be happier, from what I understand it's a bit louder than the bcs but I fancied something different and it's perfect for me, plus the v band makes putting the cat in a doodle if you feel to

Its just a way of life.

As others have said BCS is the one! :happy2: In regards to the big turbo conversion, when the time comes it's all bout the Nortech kit!
